Classic World of Darkness

Vampire: the Masquerade

• Masquerade in Chicago

  [Primary Continuity]

  This was a chronicle which spanned the early World of Darkness from 1991 to 1993. So far, it has been the largest chronicle I have run. The whole story was logged night by night and bundled in a large document called Chicago Unmasqued. After the very last session, the players each received a hard copy in which many of Chicago's secrets were revealed.

• Children of the Typhon

  The second chronicle of what was starting to become a cWoD continuity, Children of the Typhon followed Masquerade in Chicago as a short interlude. The outline of the story, set in 1993, was extremely free-form, where the players decided on a coterie concept for a travelling band of unaligned Kindred. Their choice fell to playing Setites, whose adventures are recorded here, in Serpents Uncoiled.

• City of Black Miracles

  [Primary Continuity]

  Before City of Black Miracles, no story had picked up where Masquerade in Chicago had left off. Taking place in Montreal, this new chronicle offered a glimpse at how the characters who defected to the Sabbat of New York City had fared up until early 1994. Those fates, and how they are tied to the city of Montreal, are bathed in such terror and depravity as only Black Dog material can do justice. Similarly bathed, please take appropriate heed before reading Montreal Unhallowed, below.

• Festival of the Damned

  [Primary Continuity]

  Following the line of 1990s Vampire stories, it is picked up in 1995, set in New Orleans. Festival of the Damned served to introduce new players to the genre once again. All characters were fledglings, some born and raised in the city, some just visiting when one fateful Mardi Gras puts an end to their mortal lives. Celebrations Outlived covers all sessions as they were written, with notes on how they unfolded.

Vampire: the Dark Ages

• Dark Ages Origins: The North

  The first of what is planned as a series, Dark Ages Origins: the North takes place during the Viking Age in Norway. It tells the origin story of a player character up to the Embrace by a Methuselah. I have watched the players agonize over which character would finally be chosen and who exactly this mythical sire was. In the end it was a brutal story worth telling.

  Taking place entirely in Alaska, The Furies was an all-girl coming-of-age chronicle for relatively new players. The story takes place over the years 2000 and 2001, far ahead of the other stories in the Primary Continuity played back then. Its three acts are detailed here, in Furies Unleashed.

Mage: the Ascension

  Our first Mage: the Ascension chronicle was set in the Detroit metropolitan area of 1998. Not unlike The Furies, it hints at some of the major events further down the Primary Continuity timeline. Even though the plot was a little daunting, it brought new players to the table and kindled a lasting interest in Mage. Dystopian Awakening's many secrets are revealed below.

Mage: the Sorcerers Crusade

  Leaping back into a historical setting, Helion's Advocates bridges 75 years of Renaissance Europe. With a slight twist on the meaning of Awakening and Ascension for a select group of mages, it ties the characters' fate to a mysterious recurring comet. With more players than usual (but not all at the same time), it was a strictly episodic story, with gaps of a few years passing by in between sessions. Collected here for these players is Fates Unravelled.

  Atlanta, 1993 was the setting for What Comes After. The story is about cruelty, ultimately the cruelty of fate, but others besides. It's a three-player maximum story. Aftermath Surpassed is available at your own discretion.
